Spain Travel
The diverse landscapes of Spain arouse the imagination. The beautiful Pyrenees and Picos de Europa, the snowcapped Sierra Nevada rising unexpectedly from Andalusia's sun-baked plains, and the cliffs of Spain's Atlantic northwest are complemented by the Mediterranean's picturesque bays. Communities of timeless beauty sit on hilltops, nestle in valleys, and cling to seaside outcrops, while timeless Roman ruins, powerful cathedrals, and unrivaled treasures of Islamic architecture testify of a country where history's great civilizations rose, fell, and left their everlasting mark.
Despite all of the emphasis on Spain's history, Spain lives in the present where life is a ‘fiesta’, and everyone seems to be invited. Here, food and wine are the national passions and every kitchen is a laboratory, where eager experiments with diverse recipes are carried out every single moment. You could have the nicest meal ever while eating tapas in a crowded earthy tavern where everyone is shouting, or while dining in the elegant surroundings of a Michelin-starred restaurant where a flamenco performer strikes something deep within your spirit. You'll find yourself nodding in agreement whenever it happens - this is Spain.
Through this series of articles, I intend to share our stories and experiences of traveling across Spain with our fellow photography and travel enthusiasts. I hope they help you plan your travels across this beautiful country!
Montserrat, literally meaning “serrated mountain” or "saw mountain" in Catalan, is a stunning 1,236 m high mountain, 50 kilometers northwest of Barcelona. The mountain gets its name from the curiously rounded rock pillar formations that appear to have been sawed and sculpted by wind and rain over thousands of years. Pink conglomerate, a sedimentary rock, is the main constituent of the mountain. Cradled at 725 m on its slopes, is Santa Maria de Montserrat, the historic mountain top Benedictine monastery that houses the statue of the Virgin of Montserrat, one of Europe's rare Black Madonnas. It is one of Catalonia's most important shrines, as well as one of the most prominent Catholic pilgrimages in the world, making Montserrat the most popular day trip from Barcelona.
